Erin & Christopher Csernica / Mt. Lebanon Soap Company
Hometown: Port Murray, NJ
Erin and Chris Csernica made their first bars of soap as wedding favors for their 2010 wedding. At the time, they had no intention of starting a soap company. When their oldest daughter was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome, they turned their hobby into a business to build a trust fund for their daughter’s future.
They offer a rotating inventory of 40 seasonal fragrances, including 4 New Jersey-themed soaps. However, their number one seller is Activated Charcoal, which they struggle to keep in stock. Activated charcoal is used in many beauty products because it neutralizes and encapsulates toxins.
Their soaps are made with organic ingredients whenever possible and packaged in recycled cardboard boxes. Erin says the soap studio in their home looks like a bakery with racks and racks of soap loaves laid out to cure for 4 - 6 weeks before they are cut into bars.
