Jewelry designers Alan Uchin and Dale Norley met in 2004 and combined their talents to create Purple Gem Jewelry. The couple’s studio is a converted barn on their property in Chester County, Pa., and they enjoy fusing a variety of textured materials with rare fossils and stones to create their signature pieces. Be sure to check out their new designs, since they’re always brainstorming and creating in the studio. Their latest creations use meteorites, which work well for both men’s and women’s jewelry and are like nothing you’ve seen before. They offer a full line of jewelry, from dangling earrings to necklaces, rings, pins and bracelets. While they’re always brimming with inspiration and ideas for new items, they also welcome working with clients to design custom pieces. Alan and Dale are familiar faces at Sugarloaf Craft Festivals, so be sure to check out their jewelry and say hello.

Emily Uchytil

Fine Art

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Emily Uchytil received her BFA from the Hartford Art School and worked as a middle school art teacher before becoming a full time painter.

In her oil paintings she shares her passions for ecology, entomology and intricate patterns like the ones used in antique wallpaper.

Her artwork often shows only a tiny section of a room in order to highlight the often unseen imagery nestled within busy patterned spaces. She created a series of paintings of birds, insects and plants shown on a background of ornate antique wallpaper.

Emily lives and works in Baltimore, MD with her partner, Michael.

If work is followed by reward, then Schokolat creates the perfect gifts for all the hard workers in your life.

Since 2013, Schokolat has made realistic looking gift items and greeting cards out of the finest grade chocolate.

Using premium 58% cocoa chocolate, Chris Vail and team make detailed miniatures of various craftsmen and gardening tools and kitchen utensils. Their collection includes teapots, keys, padlocks, handcuffs, golf irons, golf balls, nuts and bolts, pliers, Steampunk goggles and many other items.

Schokolat’s chocolate tools are deliberately ‘aged’ with a few nicks and scrapes to look like well worn tools and utensils.

For the chocolate lovers in your life, skip the usual greeting card aisle and give a chocolate greeting!

Read Sugarloaf's Interview with Thomas!

Thomas von Koch started WGK Glass Art in Germany in 1982 when he was just 25 years old. What he lacked in business acumen, he more than made up for in artistic talent. Originally a lampworker, he expanded his portfolio to include vases and tea light candle holders. Later in his career, he used nature to inspire his work, and today he creates everything from exotic birds and sea life to spiders and bats. WGK Glass Art is a collective that includes John Zinner, Sandra Jahn and Anja Stotzer. The four work together to create one-of-a-kind pieces bursting with vibrant colors and unmatched detail. In addition to animal sculptures, WGK offers handmade jewelry, beautiful sun catchers and tabletop items like jam jars and oil and vinegar bottles. Stop by WGK’s booth for a close-up view of their talented work.
